Does buying a card create free Google Cloud credit?
No. Check trial-credit eligibility in your Google Cloud account. Before adding a card, review when the credit or trial ends and how active resources are billed afterward. Base the card balance on your actual bill and project usage.
GCP billing is different from buying a ready-made server
The card is for billing in your own account; you manage resources and usage costs. Check Billing Account status and the required budget before adding it.
The merchant payment and the card purchase cost are different
The card purchase total includes the dollar balance, issuance fee, conversion rate and any fees disclosed in the quote. Calculate the required balance from the merchant’s final checkout total, not just the advertised plan price.
Before connecting the card to GCP
- Specify the Billing Account type
- Check Payments Profile country and currency
- Consider an alternative or backup payment method
- Set Cloud consumption budget and Alert
- Check the Free Trial terms independently of the card
Periodic payment risk
Staying active of the project depends on the success of the next harvests. Card balance, amount limit, Recurring withdrawal option and Google policy can produce different result in each period.
Don't rely on an untested card without a backup payment method for a critical workload.
